Britney Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi but raised in rural Louisiana (Kentwood) on December 2, 1981, to Jamie and Lynne Spears. As a child, Britney attended dance classes, and she was great at gymnastics, winning many local competitions and the like, and as she progressed she moved on to more and more different (eventually national) dance, singing, and gymnastics competitions. At age 8, Britney tried out for "The New Mickey Mouse Club", but was turned down (as well as a young Christina Aguilera) due to her young age, but was told to return a few years later. This directed her to an off-Broadway show, "Ruthless", for a 2-year run as the title character. At age 11, she again tried for "MMC" (as it was commonly known) and this time made it as a mouseketeer along side many stars of today (Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, J.C. Chasez of NSync and Ryan Gosling). Her big break, however, came when she was signed as a Jive Recording Artist in the late 90s. With the release of her debut single, "...Baby One More Time" hitting the worldwide No.1 in early 1999, Britney became an international success, selling 13 million copies of her debut album "Baby..." and 9 million (as of July 2001) of her sophomore album, "Oops!...I Did It Again," released in May of 2000. Britney went on to have a relationship with other celebrities such as Kevin Federline and Justin Timberlake, and having 2 children named Sean Preston and Jayden James. She is the most celebrity of her young generation.
